Ukrainians who have acquired the UKR (PESEL) status in Poland are increasingly faced with its cancellation. This usually becomes known when entering Poland or applying to institutions. We tell you who can lose this status and on what grounds.

As the Ukrainian Embassy in Poland notes, the only reason for canceling the UKR (PESEL) status is Article 11, Clause 2 of the "Law on Assistance to Citizens of Ukraine in Connection with the Armed Conflict on the Territory of this State", if a person leaves Poland for a period of more than 1 month.

All other grounds for cancellation of such status are illegitimate.

What to do if your UKR (PESEL) status has been revoked?

If the status has been revoked, the embassy recommends that citizens of Ukraine contact the local administrations (Urząd miasta/urząd dzielnicy, urząd gminy) that are in charge of issuing this status with a request for its restoration.

If the institution refuses to do this or refers you to the Border Service (Straż Graniczna), you can contact the regional offices for foreigners (Urząd Wojewódzki, Wydział Spraw Cudzoziemców), or the Office for Foreigners in the city of Warsaw:

• hotline of the Department for Foreigners of the Mazowiecki Voivodeship Administration in Warsaw (+48 (22) 695 67 73);

• hotline of the Office for Foreigners in Warsaw (+48 47 721 75 75).

We will remind you! In Poland, amendments were made to the law on assistance to Ukrainians fleeing the war. Learn more about the "freezing" of social security payments when citizens of Ukraine leave Poland, tariffs for accommodation in accommodation facilities, and more at the link.

Remember! An insurance policy is a guarantor of your safety and peaceful stay outside of Ukraine. In order to protect yourself from troubles abroad and to be calm for yourself and your loved ones, Visit Ukraine recommends not to delay and take out insurance online.
