Moldova is liked by tourists and expats for its average accommodation prices. Learn more about the cost of renting apartments, utilities, groceries and healthcare in the country
Moldova has always attracted tourists with picturesque landscapes and moderate prices. Ukraine's southern neighbor is considered one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. Despite this, Moldova continues to accept Ukrainian refugees and helps them settle down in the country.
In particular, Moldova has become one of the most comfortable countries to live in, so we share current prices for renting housing, food, entertainment and travel in the country.
The budget for a family of four is $1,700, not including rent.
Note that the state currency of the country is the Moldovan lei, but for the convenience of understanding the prices, we indicate them in dollars.
Housing rent and utilities
Renting housing in Moldova is more expensive than in Ukraine. The cost depends on the city you have chosen. A one-room apartment in a big city, for example, Chisinau, costs about 550 US dollars, and in the suburbs - up to 310 dollars. At the same time, you can find a studio apartment for up to $200.
The cost of communal services is also higher compared to Ukraine. At the same time, it does not compare with prices in Britain or Austria. For an apartment with an area of 42 m2, in which one person lives, the cost is about 80 dollars. This amount includes payment for electricity, water, gas and heating.
Internet in Moldova is available - tariffs available for $9 per month. The same can be said about mobile communication - the monthly cost for prepaid is less than $1.
Cost of food in Moldova
It is easy to find organic inexpensive products in Moldova. They are usually not bought in advance, but immediately before cooking. You can also find farm produce, including dairy products, fruits and vegetables.
The assortment is similar to the usual Ukrainians, and the prices do not differ much from ours: apples (1 kg) - $1, tomatoes (1 kg) - $1.7, potatoes (1 kg) - $0.6, eggs (12 pcs.) - $2, milk (1 liter) - $0.8, bread (for two people for one day) - $0.25, a bottle of quality wine - $7.
Lunch in a cafe in the city center will cost you 7 dollars, and in a fast food restaurant - up to 5 dollars.
Fare price
Public transport covers almost every region of the country. It is pleasing that the cost of travel is not high compared to other European countries - a monthly travel card costs about 7 dollars.
In Chisinau, a one-time ticket for a trolleybus or bus costs 0.4 dollars. The initial taxi fare is much lower than in other European countries - less than $2.
The price of 1 liter of gasoline is $1.3.
Sports and entertainment
Getting away from routine and work in Moldova is inexpensive. A gym membership costs $25 on average, and you can visit a movie for $6.
Medical services in Moldova
Ukrainians who received protection in Moldova use medical services, just like citizens of the country. To get help from doctors, you need to have a document confirming your Ukrainian citizenship. In addition to state institutions, private clinics also operate in the country.
In order to guarantee 100% access to quality medical services in Moldova, we recommend taking out an insurance policy. Having insurance will save you time, money and will be a guarantee of your peace of mind.
We will remind you! Until February 1, 2023, a simplified regime for crossing the state border will be in force in Moldova. Find out through which points it is most convenient to enter the country by following the link.
