The state of Saxony-Anhalt, which is located in northern Germany, has extended the period of use of cars with Ukrainian registration. Read below to find out how long the exemption has been extended.
Thus, Ukrainians who have entered Saxony-Anhalt are now allowed to use their vehicles in German traffic for two years from the moment they cross the border.
At the same time, cars with Ukrainian registration can be used no longer than until April 1, 2024, depending on their protection status under the law on residence, without the need to apply for a German license.
It is worth noting that according to the decision of the EU Council adopted in the summer of 2022, Ukrainian driving licenses are recognized in all EU countries. You can use both a physical and digital license.
As for car registration, in Germany, as in other EU countries, there is a requirement to register cars that have been in the country for more than 6 months. However, Ukrainians do not have to do this - a car with Ukrainian registration is allowed to be used for up to one year. The time count starts from the first day of entry into the country.
