Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine continues. However, Ukrainians still find time for a well-deserved vacation. Not everyone can afford foreign tourism at the moment, but there are interesting vacation destinations in Ukraine. We will tell you more about them in this article
During the period of military operations in Ukraine, many citizens seek to find a way to escape from their daily routine and visit interesting places within the country and beyond. However, choosing a holiday destination in times of war can be difficult. Here's a look at where Ukrainians prefer to go on holiday during martial law.
Given the restrictions imposed by the special legal regime during the war, many Ukrainian citizens cannot travel abroad as they are liable for military service.
In this case, most citizens choose domestic tourism. The main flow of Ukrainian vacationers is in the western regions of the country for several reasons: 1. tourist areas (mountains, reservoirs and recreation centers); 2. regions in western Ukraine are located far from the front line.
One of the most popular destinations for Ukrainians is the resorts in the Carpathians. In winter, this place becomes popular for outdoor enthusiasts, and in summer - for tourists who enjoy hiking and cycling. Resorts such as Bukovel, Dragobrat and Polyanytsia offer a variety of recreational opportunities.
Some Ukrainians also choose resorts on the Black Sea, such as Odesa, Zatoka and Chornomorsk. Although these places are located quite close to the war zone, many people believe that they can still enjoy a holiday on the coast and attend various entertainment events.
According to the State Agency for Tourism Development, the amount of tourist tax in Ukraine was expected to decline last year. A record decline was recorded in the southern and eastern regions, while the western regions of the country recorded growth. For example, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions paid the most tourist tax. This indicates that the main flow of tourists focused on holidays in the western regions.
Vacation abroad for Ukrainians
As for foreign tourism, not many Ukrainians who remain in the country can afford this type of holiday during the war. The main consumers of foreign offers are women and children who are not subject to general mobilisation. However, men can also travel abroad - those who are exempt from mobilisation measures under the rules.
Please note! We have previously told you who is still eligible to travel abroad and the main changes to men's departure in 2023.
As of last year, the list of top foreign destinations was as follows:
1. bus trips to Turkey;
2. tours with air transfers from Chisinau to Turkey and Egypt;
3. Balkan countries.
Despite the difficulties associated with the hostilities in Ukraine, many people are finding ways to relax and enjoy life. Regardless of where they decide to spend their holidays, the main thing is that it is safe and enjoyable for them.
