Public transport in Europe: how to move around the European Union favorably
Table of Contents
A large number of travelers are already booking vacations in different parts of the world, but European countries are leading the way. Find out how to get around some EU countries conveniently and on a budget using public transport
European Union countries are preparing for a tourist boom this year. However, in unfamiliar countries, tourists may face problems in getting around. One of the solutions to this problem is public transportation, which will help you get to any place you need to visit conveniently and affordably. In this article, we will tell you in detail how to get around the main EU countries in a cost-effective way.
When traveling, using public transportation can be a great choice to save money on travel and get around cities faster.
France
Travelers in France can use the SNCF train system, which provides high-speed rail service in most cities in the country and across Europe.
For tourists who want to travel in the French capital, Paris, there are many public transportation options that will help save time and money.
A single adult ticket in Paris costs €2.10 on most metro and bus lines. If you plan to make at least 6 trips a day, you can buy a Paris Visite card, which gives you unlimited travel on buses and subways. The pass costs 13.55 euros, but for the extended zone (to the main airports and Disneyland) you will have to pay 28.5 euros.
Please note that tourists should be aware of strikes that occur from time to time in the French public transportation system. You can follow the information about delays and cancellations here.
Spain
For tourists who plan to visit major cities in Spain, such as Barcelona and Madrid, we recommend using local public transportation, which is an excellent and safe way to get around the cities.
Guests of Madrid can use the local metro, where there is an option to purchase a tourist ticket for unlimited daily use of public transport. The cost of such a ticket starts from 8.40 euros.
At the same time, travelers who value comfort and are willing to pay more can ride the luxurious Renfe tourist trains with chic compartments and gourmet restaurants.

Italy
For tourists planning to travel to major cities in Italy, the Trenitalia Pass is a great option available only to foreign nationals visiting Italy to explore the country. This pass costs from 129 euros (or approximately 141.20 US dollars) for 3 trips within a week. It allows you to visit a number of cities in Italy or neighboring countries.
There are also several types of public transportation in the Italian capital, Rome, including trains, trams, trolleybuses, and subways. A 100-minute ride in Rome will cost a tourist 1.5 euros.
Germany
As we wrote earlier, Germany has launched an unlimited ticket for public transport called Deutschlandticket. For an unlimited number of trips, citizens will have to pay only 49 euros per month. This ticket is available throughout the country and covers all types of transport, including regional ones.
In addition, if tourists plan to stay in Germany for a long period of time, we recommend using tourist cards that are valid in major cities. For example, in the German capital Berlin, there is a Berlin Welcome Card for unlimited public transportation and discounts on visits to the most popular tourist locations. The price of such a card starts at 25 euros.
Hungary
Hungary has also launched an unlimited monthly travel card for 49 euros.
In the country's capital, you can take advantage of a great offer and buy a Budapest Card for 33 euros. With this card, you can not only use unlimited transport, but also visit museums, excursions and popular thermal pools for free.
Please note! In order to avoid troubles in the EU countries, you should know the rules of public transportation. Here are the main rules and prohibitions that Ukrainians should keep in mind when using public transport in the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and Switzerland.
