In August, the Chesno movement conducted a study and calculated how many local MPs from Ukraine's key parties had joined the military. The data was reportedly taken into account from those parties that have representation in the Verkhovna Rada or are among the top ten in terms of the number of deputies at the local level and have deputies in many regions of Ukraine.

"It is beneficial for russia to launch a narrative that Ukrainian MPs do not serve, but sit in the rear behind the backs of citizens. In fact, both members of the Verkhovna Rada and local councils are fighting, some of them side by side with their sons," the study says.

How many MPs have joined the Armed Forces?

According to the study, more than 600 local MPs are currently serving in the Armed Forces, but it should be borne in mind that some parties refused to provide data to the Chesno movement.

What percentage of MPs from each party have taken up arms:

– Thus, the "Radical Party" has the largest percentage of deputies who are veterans - 22 military personnel out of 71 deputies, which is 31% of the total number of deputies in the surveyed councils.

– "Svoboda" party is in second place, with 102 out of 402 deputies with a mandate in city, regional and district councils having joined the ranks of the Armed Forces, or 25.6%.

– The "European Solidarity" party is in third place, with 328 frontline deputies out of 2,395, which is 13.7%.

– Fourth place goes to "Propozytsiya" - 28 military members out of 253 MPs (11.1%).

– The fifth place goes to "UDAR" - 10 out of 120 MPs, which is 8.3%.

– Sixth place goes to "Batkivshchyna" - 103 veterans out of 1597 MPs, or 6.4%.

– The seventh place goes to "Za maybutnye" - 48 military personnel out of 891 MPs, which is 5.4%.

The study notes that the movement did not receive a response to the appeals from the "Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman" and "Syla ta chestʹ" political parties. At the same time, the representative office of the "Golos"party reported that it could not update the data, so it suggested using the data provided in 2022.

In addition, representatives of the Chesno movement report that the leader of the previous wave of the survey, the Sluga narodu party, refused to provide data for the survey this year. According to an official letter, the party believes that the research methodology does not take into account deputies of village and town councils, and therefore is not representative.

What are the losses of Ukraine among the MPs-frontline fighters?

According to published data, the losses of frontline MPs in Ukrainian political parties as of July 2023 are as follows:

– European Solidarity - 10 MPs serving in the military;

– Svoboda - 6;

– Propozytsiya - 1;

– Radical Party - 1.

The party "Za maybutnye" has one missing MP-frontline soldier. The "Batkivshchyna" and "UDAR" parties have no fatalities.

However, these data do not take into account the number of deputies of village and town councils, and therefore the total number of deputies who joined the ranks of the Armed Forces, went missing or died is higher.

It is noted that a number of frontline deputies, along with other soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are trained abroad and have been awarded state awards for their achievements in service and on the battlefield.

"To win, it is important for Ukraine to be consolidated and united in supporting the army in the fight against the aggressor. We, the Ukrainians, must do everything possible to bring our victory closer: support the army, volunteers, local governments and remember that victory depends on each of us," the study concludes.
