Traveling abroad by car can be an exciting adventure, but in order to avoid unnecessary difficulties, you need to prepare all the necessary documents in advance and take into account possible financial aspects. Below, we will review the main documents required for traveling abroad by car from Ukraine, as well as what coverage is provided under the Green Card in the event of an accident in popular EU countries.

In order to travel abroad by your car, you will need to collect a number of documents and know a few important nuances.

Documents required for traveling abroad by car:

1. International passport. This document must be valid for at least six months from the date of your planned return. As for visas, each country has different rules. Therefore, to check the visa-free regime for Ukrainians in a particular country, follow the link.

2. Driver's license. Your driver's license must be valid and meet the requirements of the country you are traveling to.

3. Vehicle registration certificate issued in the name of the driver or passenger.

4. Identification mark of Ukraine on the car (UA sticker is not required if the symbols are indicated on the license plate).

5. International insurance policy "Green Card".

If a serviceman is traveling abroad, he must provide documents confirming the purpose of the trip.

Please note that the car must have a state license plate containing Latin letters. An individual license plate is accepted only in Ukraine.

Green Card: what are the amounts of coverage in case of an accident in different countries?

A "Green Card" is an international insurance certificate that provides the car owner with insurance coverage in the event of road accidents abroad. It is a mandatory document for motorists traveling to EU countries.

The policy got its name because of the color of the paper on which it was printed. Nowadays, of course, the policy is printed on regular paper, but the name has stuck. You can often hear the term "Green card" as well.

It's worth remembering that, for example, at the border with Poland, which is considered the most popular border for Ukrainians to cross, representatives of the Polish Border Guard Service require the physical presence of a Green Card. That is, during the border check you need to provide a physical document, not an electronic one!

How is the Green Card useful? Holders of this insurance can count on coverage of drivers' liability for damage in the event of an accident. However, it is worth noting that the amount of compensation may vary significantly depending on the country where the accident occurred and may reach the maximum amount established by the law of each country.

Please note that the Green Card insurance company covers losses in full within the limit, but if they exceed the limit, you will have to pay the remaining amount out of pocket.

It is better to buy insurance online, because it is quick and easy. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can take out a Green Card policy from a licensed insurance agent. Packages are available for 15 days, 1 or 6 months, or a year.
