Massive flight cancellations in Europe: where and when are the September airport strikes planned?
Table of Contents
This September, Europe is preparing for a wave of airline strikes that could cause serious inconvenience to passengers. Flight cancellations and public transportation disruptions could become the norm in several European countries. Find out where strikes are planned
Strikes by airline workers are planned in many European countries. This could lead to flight cancellations and disruptions in public transportation in many European countries in the fall.
Here's a look at the reasons for the strikes and in which countries air passengers may face flight cancellations and ground handling problems.
United Kingdom
In the UK, 24-hour strikes at Luton Airport (London) scheduled for September 13 and 20 will cause inconvenience to Wizz Air passengers.
Ground handling staff at GH London have gone on strike to protest poor working conditions and unfair treatment.
Cleaners at Luton Airport will also go on strike for four days starting September 20 over pay issues. Parking lot workers have also joined the "flash mob". They will strike on the same day for 48 hours.
This may cause delays for passengers using the parking lot and buses traveling from the parking lot to the airport terminal.
France
In France, the largest air traffic controllers' union (SNCTA) called for a nationwide strike on September 15 and October 13. This could lead to large-scale flight cancellations and affect flights from other countries.
The reasons for the strikes are dissatisfaction with wages and working conditions.
Italy
In Italy, air traffic controllers working at airports across the country will go on strike for eight hours from 10 am on September 16.
Some flights will not be affected, as the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) will publish a list of guaranteed flights a few days before the strike.
At the same time, a nationwide strike by public transport workers is scheduled for September 18. This strike could cause serious disruptions to subways, trams and buses in major cities and increase traffic congestion.
On September 29, a 24-hour strike of baggage handlers is planned at Italian airports, and ENAC Airlines guarantees flights between 07:00-10:00 and 18:00-21:00 during the strike.

Belgium
In Belgium, a strike by Ryanair pilots is scheduled for September 14-15. Charleroi Airport has already been the scene of strikes before (in July and August), when hundreds of flights were canceled.
At that time, the demands were put forward by the CNE and ACV Puls unions, as well as the Beca pilots' union. CNE also warned that protests would continue if working conditions and wages were not improved.
