Railway security marshals: what kind of secret guards are they and what will they do on trains and at train stations?
Table of Contents
From now on, security marshals will be working on the territory of railway stations and on trains. Find out what these employees will do, why their service is secret and not public, and how Ukrzaliznytsia justified the innovation
"Ukrzaliznytsia" is introducing a new system of security and crime prevention. According to the carrier's press service, a new secret service, railway security marshals, will now operate on the territory of railway stations and in trains. It is specified that the first marshals started working in certain areas in September.
The innovation is driven by the need to strengthen security control at railway facilities, in particular, at railway stations and on trains, in order to prevent citizens from transporting explosive and other substances and weapons that are not allowed for transportation unless they have a permit.
What kind of secret structure is this and what functions it will perform is described in the article below.
Who are the secret railway security marshals?
Ukrzaliznytsia explained that secret marshals are employees of the company's paramilitary security. Their main task is to control the situation on the territory of station complexes and during passenger transportation and to respond to changes or threats in a timely manner if necessary.
Unlike regular security guards, who work at railway facilities in uniform, security marshals do not work in public. This means that neither passengers, nor visitors to stations, nor criminals will be aware of the presence of services that detect offenders. Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, notes that security marshals are specially trained specialists.
"This is a common model for security units on air routes. Our marshals, who are incognito on trains and at train stations, are tasked with assessing risks and responding quickly to threats that may arise during passenger travel. They are also all specially trained specialists," he said.
Most likely, the new security structure started working as part of the implementation of the Railroad Security project, which the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported earlier. Currently, paramilitary guards accompany passengers on 9 trains.
According to the carrier's press service, the first security marshals began their work in early fall on one of the western routes, which currently requires more attention to ensure passenger safety.
