Breast Health Day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and maintaining women's health and motivates women to visit healthcare facilities for timely diagnosis and prevention. Learn more about breast disease prevention and why it is important to visit doctors regularly
The European Day of Breast Health is an important initiative to raise awareness of women's health and the prevalence of breast-related diseases. This day encourages women to have regular medical check-ups and provides an opportunity to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis. We talk about breast cancer, its prevention, and the history of the day dedicated to women's health.
History of the European Breast Health Day
This day is celebrated annually as the next event in a series of Pink October events dedicated to the fight against cancer. Breast Health Day was initiated by the European Coalition Against Cancer (Europa Donna). This non-profit organization was established in 1994 by a small group of women. Its goal was to raise awareness of the seriousness of cancer and the need for early diagnosis.
Today it is an independent organization with members in 47 European countries. The main event of the organization is the Breast Health Day. The event was first organized in Milan in 2008. Also in 2009, the Breast Health Day was celebrated with the support of the prominent Spanish tennis player Aranca Sanchez-Vicario. Now this day is celebrated annually.
Why is it important to talk publicly about women's health?
One of the key issues in women's health is breast cancer. This disease is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Early detection and treatment of cancer is important to save lives.
It is important to understand that timely consultations with a doctor and regular medical examinations can help prevent or detect these problems in time. And national and international initiatives aimed at raising awareness of women's health play an important role in these issues and in the attitude of humanity towards various aspects of women's health.
The European Day of Breast Health provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of these issues and emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and timely medical check-ups among women. Encouraging women to visit doctors and get regular check-ups can have a significant impact on reducing the risk of disease and improving the quality of life, and even save it.

How to detect breast cancer at an early stage
To detect breast cancer and sarcoma at an early stage and prevent the rapid development of pathology, according to doctors, all women need to regularly perform three effective actions: breast self-examination, visiting a mammologist, and mammography.
Breast self-examination
Breast self-examination should be performed at the same time every month, preferably one week after the end of menstruation.
A single monthly breast self-examination allows you to carefully examine the individual structures of the breast and always know whether a new lump has appeared or has been present for a long time.
Since the mammary glands are directly connected to the genitals, you may need to consult a gynecologist, endocrinologist, or other doctor.
Mammography and ultrasound diagnostics of the mammary glands
Self-examination can detect tumors that are already quite large, so other examination methods, such as breast ultrasound or mammography, are needed to detect the germ of the disease.
In the case of a combination of mammography and ultrasound, the rate of detection of tumors in the early stages is almost 100%.
In particular, women under 40 years of age are recommended to have an annual ultrasound, and those over 40 years of age should have a mammogram every one to two years.
This difference is due to the fact that women under 40 have very dense breast tissue, which makes mammography difficult.
Prevention of breast diseases
In addition to early detection of tumors, prevention of breast diseases should include the following points:
Proper nutrition. Avoid animal fats, fried, salty and smoked foods. Include plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, berries and herbs in your menu. In particular, onions, carrots, cabbage, and tomatoes contain natural antioxidants, substances that neutralize the effects of free radicals that can cause cancer in healthy cells.
Breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is the most powerful means of preventing breast cancer. This is due to the fact that the production of breast milk is a very complex hormonal process that affects the functioning of the entire body of a woman.
Proper underwear. Doctors have proven that improperly fitted bras (too tight, compressing lymph nodes, or having tight seams) can excessively injure the delicate breast tissue and irritate nerve fibers. Therefore, choose only high-quality underwear that matches the size and shape of your breasts and provides anatomically correct support.
Exercise. Include at least a few exercises that strengthen your pectoral muscles in your daily routine. Breasts surrounded by strong, firm muscles are an excellent prevention of breast cancer.
In addition, monitor your hormone levels (get regular female hormone tests), have your blood tested annually for tumor markers if you have a family history of breast cancer, avoid breast trauma, and avoid stress.
