Ukrainians actively go abroad for work, study, to visit relatives or on vacation. However, the introduced martial law has certain features and restrictions on crossing the border.

To help you prepare for departure from Ukraine, we have developed a checklist of things to do and things to remember before you go on a trip.

1. Check your foreign passport

Be sure to check your foreign passport before planning to leave Ukraine. Even with a valid passport, most countries refuse entry if it expires within three to six months of crossing the border. If you do not have a passport at all for traveling abroad, then submit a document for its registration at least one month before the planned departure. The application must be submitted in person to the local passport service. The document is produced within 20 days (not including delivery) or you can order an urgent one - 7 days (not including delivery).

Only refugees from areas of active hostilities can cross the border of Ukraine with an internal passport.

2. Get a visa

Citizens of Ukraine can travel without visas to 112 countries of the world. However, if you plan to work or study, then a permit is mandatory. Apply for a visa at the consulate of the country of destination before departure. Consult a lawyer to find out the visa requirements for the chosen country, depending on the purpose of your trip.

3. Take out medical insurance

The policy is not always required when crossing the border, but its absence can have unpleasant consequences, because the health care system in many countries is built on insurance. Also, medical services for foreigners abroad are usually paid and very expensive. A health insurance policy will help you avoid unnecessary expenses abroad.

Experienced travelers also advise to undergo a medical examination and visit a dentist before traveling in order to avoid emergency situations abroad.

4. Buy a "Green Card" (for those who travel in their own car)

"Green card" is an international insurance policy for motorists. The document is mandatory when traveling abroad for all vehicles registered in Ukraine. Green card is an auto-citizen valid outside of Ukraine. If you have a Green Card, if you get into an accident abroad, you can count on receiving compensation from an insurance agent. 5. Check the documents for departure with children

Nowadays, the departure of children abroad does not require complicated formalities. It is enough to have a child's birth certificate and a document confirming family ties. If the child goes abroad accompanied by one of the parents or another close relative, then the permission of the second parent is not required for the child to go abroad.

6. If you are conscripted, find out whether you have the right to leave Ukraine and what documents are required for this

In the conditions of martial law, the departure of conscripts is limited. In general, the ban applies to all men between the ages of 18 and 60. Only 11 categories of persons can go abroad.

In order to obtain the right to leave Ukraine, you must have a certificate from the TCC (this can be an extract from the TCC protocol on the decision on deferment) and military registration documents with a record of the deferment.

In addition, it is necessary to have documents that confirm the availability of benefits - a certificate of disability, birth certificates of all children (for parents with many children), a document about work in a company that has the right to international transportation, etc.

7. Having prepared all the necessary documents, get on the road and go to one of the checkpoints on the Ukrainian border.
