Financial aid in Canada: How to get money with a CUAET permit and other support upon arrival
The Canadian government will provide emergency financial support to refugees from Ukraine. Financial assistance will be provided by the governments of some provinces, namely Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec.
It is these provinces that offer temporary emergency income to Ukrainians who cannot afford basic living expenses, such as housing and food. For example, in Ontario you may be eligible for up to $733 a month for a limited time.
Financial loans for Ukrainian refugees in Canada
Ukrainians in Canada may be eligible for some financial loans. This right becomes available as soon as the individual files their first income tax return one year after arriving in Canada.
For example, if you have children under the age of 18, you may be eligible to receive the Canada Child Benefit.
If your family's income is below a certain threshold. You may also be eligible for quarterly GST/HST credit (GST/HST credit).
Non-commercial support and housing for Ukrainians within the framework of CUAET
The Red Cross provides reception services for Ukrainians arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport. They can also provide information and referrals to other settlement and government support services.
YMCA branches in some Canadian cities are raising resources to provide housing and interpretation services to Ukrainian refugees.
In addition, COSTI offers housing assistance, resettlement services, and employment support for newly arrived Ukrainians.
