How the British assess the reception of refugees from Ukraine: survey results
Thousands of Ukrainians have found refuge in the UK. The More in Common organization conducted a survey among Britons about the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees in the country. Find out more about the results
Because of the war, thousands of Ukrainians had to leave their homeland and build a new life abroad.Numerous of our fellow citizens now live in the UK. For refugees from Ukraine in the Britain, there are programs that make forced resettlement more comfortable.
Recently, the More in Common organization conducted a survey among the British. The main goal of the survey was to understand how the British feel about receiving Ukrainian refugees, whether they consider it a positive or negative experience, and to identify problems that need to be addressed in the future to improve the programs for receiving refugees.
Positive results of the survey: most Britons would be happy to accept refugees again
The survey results show that 8 out of 10 people who participated in the reception of Ukrainian refugees are satisfied with the results of cooperation and consider it a positive experience for them.
It is also noted that the majority of Britons believe that the UK should not stop and should continue to provide assistance to people affected by the war.
Detailed results of the survey: statistics
• 88% of Britons who have already accepted Ukrainian refugees say they would be happy to do so again. Only 3% of respondents said that they would not take in IDPs again.
• 68% of the population consider it positive that the UK has taken in more than 150,000 refugees from Ukraine. At the same time, only 17% think it is wrong.
• The survey showed that Britons who participated in the "Home for Ukrainians" program rated their experience at 7.72 points out of 10. The level of friendliness of relations with refugees was rated at 8.43 points out of 10.
• It also turned out that the British are ready to continue to show support to other peoples suffering from war in their homeland. Thus, 3 out of 10 respondents said that they would be happy to accept Afghan refugees. 7 out of 10 British respondents confirmed that they are ready to provide housing for both Afghan and Ukrainian refugees.
• The survey revealed that the attitude of the British towards government support is rather negative. The respondents rated the support at 5.04 points out of 10, and the interaction with local authorities after receiving refugees at 5.86 points out of 10.
Why was the survey conducted?
The survey was conducted due to misunderstandings about the policy of Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Sunak is in favor of detaining boats carrying refugees fleeing to the UK across the English Channel and deporting them. The prime minister believes that stopping these boats should be a priority for the government, as voters, he said, want to stop migrants from entering the UK in this way. At the same time, there is a lack of other legal methods for refugees to enter the UK.
We remind you! Earlier we talked about deportation from Germany, France, Turkey, Sweden, Italy and the UK. You can find out the main reasons for deportation and how to prevent it here.
