The Czech Republic plans to launch a register of cars with Ukrainian license plates this year. Find out more about why it is needed and what will be included in it
The Czech Ministry of Transport is planning to introduce a register of cars with Ukrainian license plates in the near future. Such measures are planned to register drivers with temporary protection. What changes should Ukrainian motorists expect are described below.
The Czech Republic plans to launch this register in the second half of 2023. Firstly, they want to introduce such measures to track the responsibility of violators. Currently, it is difficult to match a car with a specific person, says Martin Kupka, the country's Minister of Transport.
It is noted that violators cannot be fined because their identity cannot be established.
It is planned that in addition to the driver's identity, the register will contain technical data about the vehicle, but not all of it, only the necessary ones.

As you know, currently vehicles from Ukraine do not have to undergo a technical inspection in the Czech Republic, as they are considered to be vehicles in international traffic. However, it is also impossible to insure them.
In this case, if an uninsured car causes damage, the state will compensate the injured party and will not demand compensation from Ukrainian motorists. However, such assistance is valid for 6 months after entering the territory of the Czech Republic.
After 6 months, in the event of an accident, the uninsured car will be charged.
It is worth noting that today there are about 38,000 cars with Ukrainian license plates in the Czech Republic. And from the beginning of March last year to February this year, 173 accidents involving such cars occurred in the country.
We remind you! The Czech government has made changes to the rules of residence for Ukrainian citizens on its territory. In particular, starting from April 1, free accommodation and insurance will be limited. Read more about the changes here.
