In the coming months, the number of Ukrainian refugees in Norway may increase significantly. Against the backdrop of the expected arrival of immigrants, the government has decided to increase funding for Ukrainian citizens.

According to the country's Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Marte Mies Persen, the authorities have asked municipalities to resettle a total of 35,000 refugees in 2023. But recent forecasts show that there could be even more refugees.

According to a new forecast, Norway may need to accommodate up to 43,000 refugees. Therefore, the government proposes to increase funding in a number of regions.

How much money do they want to allocate to finance Ukrainian refugees in Norway?

Municipalities will receive an additional 50,000 kroner (about 4,200 euros) for each refugee. It is expected that by the end of 2024, this will cost the country up to 200 million kroner (up to 17 million euros). This money will be added to the funding that local authorities receive for resettlement.

Additional funds will also be used to cover the costs of teaching refugees the Norwegian language. NOK 459 million (over EUR 38 million) will be allocated for this purpose by the end of 2024.

In Norway, they emphasize the importance of municipalities supporting refugees when they go to work, as many people need more than a year to learn the state language, and they want to extend this period to 18 months.

They want to plan the courses so that Ukrainians can combine them with their work.

In addition, Norway will allocate another 180 million kroner (15 million euros) for repeated rental subsidies for Ukrainian immigrants.

How much money do you need to live in Norway?

It is worth noting that Norway is considered one of the most expensive countries in the world. The high standard of living, the country's wealth in the oil and gas sectors, and the high level of taxation make many goods and services in Norway expensive for tourists and locals.

For example, food and alcohol prices are higher than in most other countries, and the cost of housing and transportation can be significantly higher. However, it should be noted that many things in Norway are expensive, but social benefits in education and healthcare relatively compensate for this difference. Also, do not forget that salaries in this country are also high.

We remind you! More than 300 Ukrainian refugee families who have taken refuge in the UK may lose their homes and end up on the streets. Find out more about the reasons for this and how the UK authorities plan to solve the problem in our article.
