Ukraine is rich in history, diverse in culture and has many beautiful cities that deserve to be seen. Speaking of Ukrainian cities, the first associations that usually come to mind are Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, or Odesa.

But hidden among green meadows and forests, in modest nooks and crannies and on the banks of picturesque rivers, there are small towns that hardly hear the loud noise of mass tourism, but have a unique atmosphere, historical charm, and warm hospitality.

We're telling you about small Ukrainian towns with unique nature and attractions that you've never heard of before, but definitely need to see with your own eyes.

Pidlisnyi Mukariv

This is a small village in the former Dunayevets district, 7 km from Maliivtsi. The most interesting building here is the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Joseph, located on the edge of the village.

The church has many typical Gothic elements, such as rose windows, crosses and pennants. Everything is very harmoniously combined.

The church has been preserved in very good condition and although the space is small, it will undoubtedly allow you to take beautiful photos.

Pidhirtsi

Pidhirtsi is a village in the Lviv region. Despite the fact that it is a small village, there are many archaeological sites dating back to the Old Russian era and the period of the Polish Kingdom.

It is known for a well-preserved Renaissance palace surrounded by defensive walls - Pidhirtsi Castle, mentioned in the Tale of Igor's Campaign, and the Church of the Ascension and St. Joseph.

Berezhany

Founded in 1375, the city is known for its architectural monuments that have retained their original appearance. The entire central part of the city is a National Historical and Architectural Reserve.

The historic center of Berezhany is an example of a Renaissance "ideal city" unique to Ukraine. This is due to a special planning system that unites the city and its three suburbs.

Nahoryany

Here lies the natural charm of the incredible beauty of the Shyshkiv Hills. Located on the Tovtrovy Ridge on the banks of the Dniester River, this limestone rock is a cone-shaped hill 15-20 meters high, on which picturesque cliffs rise.

Three of these rocks are called "Grandfather", "Grandmother" and "Granddaughter" and have a specific shape. They are associated with a legend that tells of an unhappy love story between a beautiful girl from the Nagoryany and a poor village boy.

According to the story, the owner of the village was courting the girl, but to get rid of his rival, he sent her lover to the Dniester forest, where he died. Then the girl threw herself off a cliff into the river.

Chortkiv

Despite its name, the town has nothing to do with evil spirits. On the contrary, there are many ancient churches and churches here that are definitely worth visiting when traveling around Ternopil.

The main architectural landmark of the city is the Church of St. Stanislav (Dominican Church). Its splendor and beauty are truly breathtaking.

Vytachiv

Vytachiv, a small village located on the steep Dnipro hills in the Obukhiv district of Ukraine, is recognized as one of the oldest settlements in Ukraine.

It was first mentioned in Byzantine chronicles in 950 as a major port on the Dnipro River, but archaeological excavations have shown that people lived here as early as the 4th and 5th centuries AD.

The settlement is located in the high part of the Kaniv Reservoir. There is a wooden chapel with a beautiful view of the Dnipro River.

Terebovlia

Terebovlia, one of the oldest cities in Ukraine and the oldest city in the Podillia region, is the main city of the Ternopil region. Thanks to its long history, its neighborhood is full of valuable architectural monuments.

Undoubtedly, the most beautiful locations here are the incredible viaduct, as in the Harry Potter films, and the castle in the city center, built on a high hill where an ancient Russian settlement was located in ancient times.

Pidkamin

The village of Pidkamin in the Lviv region is known among Ukrainian tourism enthusiasts for its 16-meter-high Devil's Stone. To the west of the stone, there is a heart-shaped pit and six holes that used to be used in pagan rituals.

Another local attraction here is the 17th-century Monastery of the Origin of the Tree of the Cross. Our ancestors idolized the gods of the family tree as gods of fertility and survival. Many people are interested in walking through the underground corridors of the monastery.

Every year an international folklore festival is organized in Pidkamin.

Iza

The village of Iza is the most famous center of crafts in the Zakarpattia region.

On the streets of Iza, wickerwork masters display their masterpieces, including baskets of various shapes, stunning furniture, lampshades, boxes, vases, animal houses, children's bicycles, and many other unique items.

In addition to wickerwork, another feature of the village is the unique deer farm of Mykhailo Bugash, which is known throughout Ukraine. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that real reindeer are bred here.

Bakota

Bakota is a flooded village in Podillia near Kamianets-Podilskyi. Today it is known for its stunning views and tranquility.

One of the interesting objects in Bakota is a rock monastery. A pagan temple existed here in pre-Christian times, and the cave monastery was founded in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Just below the monastery is a healing spring, and above it, on the White Mountain, is the best observation deck over the Bakot Bay. Nearby, locals sell homemade rosehip kvass and sweets.
