Most low-cost European airlines have strict requirements for the size and weight of hand luggage. After all, sometimes the cost of additional baggage can be several times higher than the cost of the ticket itself,
Avianews.com reports.

In such cases, travellers try to fit all their belongings into one hand luggage. However, it is worth reading the rules in advance to avoid facing an unpleasant situation with regard to the size and weight of bags.

Let's take a look at some European airlines that have the most stringent hand luggage rules.

Rules for carrying hand luggage with European airlines

Among the air carriers with strict restrictions, there are low-cost airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Vueling, Volotea), as well as traditional airlines Finnair and SAS Scandinavian Airlines.

The air carriers explain the restrictions on the size and weight of hand luggage as a concern for their customers. The airlines claim that this allows them to significantly speed up the boarding process, as they do not have to spend a lot of time searching for a free space for hand luggage.

Paying for hand luggage is another way to increase financial performance in a fiercely competitive environment. By choosing the cheapest tickets, passengers are not allowed to place their belongings on the hand luggage shelves. Their baggage is limited in size and can only be carried under the seat in front of them. Only passengers with a larger travel budget will be able to use the luggage racks.

You can buy train, bus, or plane tickets between cities around the world, as well as view timetables and compare prices through Visit Ukraine's convenient booking service. The website has a bonus points system that allows you to travel at a much lower cost.

The following bags can be carried without being placed on a shelf:

1. Ryanair - one piece measuring 40x25x20 centimetres with no weight limit, placed under the seat in front;

2. Wizz Air - one item with dimensions of 40x30x20 centimetres and up to 10 kilograms, placed under the seat in front of you;

3. Finnair - one item up to 40x30x15 centimetres in size, weighing up to 8 kilograms, placed under the seat in front;

4. easyJet - one item up to 45x36x20 centimetres in size and weighing up to 15 kilograms, placed under the seat in front;

5. Volotea - one seat up to 40x30x20 centimetres in size with no weight limit, placed under the seat in front;

6. Vueling - one piece up to 40x30x20 centimetres in size with no weight limit, placed under the seat in front of you;

7. Norwegian Air Shuttle - one seat up to 38x30x20 centimetres in size and weighing up to 10 kilograms, placed under the seat in front;

8. SAS - one seat measuring up to 40x30x15 centimetres with no weight limit, placed under the seat in front.

It's worth noting that not all air carriers limit the weight of hand luggage. For example, Ryanair, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Vueling, and Volotea allow hand luggage to be transported in terms of size, but do not specify weight restrictions.
