Financial aid for Ukrainians in Germany 2024: is it possible to receive payments in Ukraine?
The issue of receiving assistance for Ukrainians staying in Germany in 2024 is relevant due to the growing number of refugees. However, it is important to find out whether it is possible to receive social assistance payments outside the country. Find out more in our article
The German budget for 2024 allocated more than 6 billion euros for able-bodied Ukrainian refugees. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has proposed to redirect these funds to the Ukrainian budget, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to DW.
We will tell you what kind of financial assistance Germany is providing to Ukrainians this year and whether it is possible to receive funds in Ukraine.
What kind of assistance is provided for Ukrainian refugees in Germany?
Payments for able-bodied refugees in Germany are made through employment centers, providing them with support.
This year, able-bodied refugees registered with employment centers can receive monthly payments of 563 euros.
As you know, out of more than 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees, about 700 thousand are registered with employment centers. The rest are people of retirement age and children. They receive payments from other institutions.
Medical support and housing payments
About 80% of Ukrainian refugees in Germany live in apartments partially paid for by the state. Rent and housing costs amount to 750-850 euros per person per month. In addition, health insurance, integration courses and support for children and pensioners are provided.

Is it possible to receive German benefits in Ukraine?
According to German law, social assistance provided in Germany is only available to recipients who reside in Germany. Margrethe Bewe of the VdK civic association explains this, noting that even Germans living abroad are not eligible for these benefits.
Bewe notes that the system of social benefits in Germany is aimed at ensuring a minimum dignified existence, including education for children and the purchase of furniture. Therefore, when a person applies for social assistance or a pension, it is checked whether he or she receives a pension or other payments from Ukraine, and these amounts are taken into account when determining the assistance.
Regarding Ukrainian refugees receiving social benefits in Germany, the Federal Employment Agency reported that it has no evidence of systemic abuse of these benefits. However, in some cases, it has been found that Ukrainians do not always report their visits to Ukraine, which may affect the assignment of benefits.
