The Lithuanian government has extended the temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until March 2025. The decision was made on February 21.

In addition, the period during which refugees do not need to comply with language requirements for employment has been extended to three years, lrt.lt reports.

Please note! To ensure a safe stay abroad, you should take care of reliable health insurance in advance, which will not only help you maintain your health, but also protect you from unforeseen expenses. Lithuania will continue to provide Ukrainians with the opportunity to learn Lithuanian through activities funded by the Employment Service or through the system of individual study accounts, according to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

In mid-March 2023, the Lithuanian Language Inspectorate announced that starting in March 2024, it would start testing the level of Lithuanian language proficiency among Ukrainian refugees working in the country in accordance with legal requirements.

It was noted that if employers are unable to provide language test certificates of their employees, the language inspectorate and municipal language authorities will take action. Such plans were criticized by the government.

According to official statistics, almost 30,000 Ukrainians have found work in Lithuania since the beginning of the war.

We remind you! Earlier, we wrote that the British government has suspended one of the key programs for Ukrainian refugees. This step creates a need for Ukrainians to look for alternative ways to stay in the country legally. Learn more about the closure of the Ukraine Family Scheme and what programs remain available.
