On February 28, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security decided to extend the validity of humanitarian parole issued to refugees from Ukraine. This was reported by Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova on her Facebook page.

"I am convinced that this decision is of particular relevance to those citizens who have lost their homes as a result of russian military aggression and were forced to leave the territories where hostilities are taking place or temporarily occupied by russia," Oksana Markarova said in a post.

Who can extend the re-parole in the US?

Citizens of Ukraine whose humanitarian parole expire this year will be able to receive re-parole for up to 2 years.

Both Ukrainians who arrived in the United States under the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program and citizens who were granted a humanitarian parole at U.S. border crossings between February 11 and April 25, 2022, prior to the introduction of this program, are eligible to re-parole.

How I can apply re-parole in the US?

As stated on the website of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, in order to renew a previously issued parole, Ukrainians must submit Form I-131, "Application for Travel Document" along with supporting documents, as well as pay the appropriate fee. This can be done online and offline (by sending documents by mail).

The procedure for renewing a re-parole online through your USCIS account:

1. Fill out and sign Form I-131, "Application for Travel Document"

2. Select the option "I am outside the United States and applying for Advance Parole Document", even if you are in the United States and applying for re-parole

3. Click "Yes" to the question about applying for re-parole

4. Submit the required documentation

5. Pay the application fee.

Please note! You cannot claim a fee waiver if you submit your application online. If you are helping a minor to apply for a re-parole, please indicate him/her as the applicant.

Procedure for submitting an application for a re-parole offline:

1.  Fill out and sign Form I-131, "Application for Travel Document"

2. Select item 1.e in Part 2 to indicate that "I am outside the United States and applying for Advance Parole Document" even if you are in the United States and applying for re-parole

4. Write by hand "Ukraine RE-PAROLE" at the top of the form

5. Submit the required documentation and a request for a fee waiver or exemption.

Documents required to re-parole in the US

Regardless of whether you apply for a re-parole online or by mail, you will need to provide documents that verify your original humanitarian parole period and your identity, including a photograph, full name, and date of birth. These may include:

– Form I-94;

– Copies of the front and back of the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) issued by the USCIS;

– A copy of both sides of a driver's license or government-issued identification card;

– A copy of the identity page (biographical page) of the passport, with a translation into English, and copies of all security clearance stamps and humanitarian parole in the passport for entry into the United States.

Ukrainians who arrived in the United States under the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program must have proof of appropriate vaccinations and other medical requirements to renew their humanitarian parole. The relevant data must be filled in in the USCIS personal account.

Please note! All documents in Ukrainian must be translated into English with a notarized translation of the translator's signature.
