The Czech Republic is one of the countries that hospitably opened its doors for Ukrainian refugees and organized appropriate assistance for their comfortable stay in the country.

The government of the Czech Republic has given Ukrainians the opportunity to issue temporary protection status, which will be valid until March 31, 2023. In order to legally stay in the Czech Republic after March 31, the temporary protection status will need to be extended.

How to extend the status of temporary protection in the Czech Republic: two options

In the first case, in order to extend the status of temporary protection, Ukrainians will need to personally visit the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic by March 30, 2023, and complete online registration.

Keep in mind that those refugees who fail to register and apply for an extension by March 31 will lose their temporary protection status in the Czech Republic.

When choosing the second option for status extension, Ukrainians do not need to come to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in person. Only online registration is enough.

In both options for extending the term of temporary protection, Ukrainians will need to indicate:

• Place of residence in the Czech Republic;

• Name and address of the school where the child is registered.

How will the procedure for refugees living in temporary housing in the Czech Republic change?

Currently, Ukrainian refugees have the right to live in temporary housing for no more than 30 days, and in general in free housing - no more than 150 days.

In connection with the introduction of changes, Ukrainians will have the right to continue living in the chosen temporary housing, but it will be necessary to pay for it. The price for housing must be fixed in writing.

Change in the rules for payment of cash assistance to Ukrainians in the Czech Republic

The Ministry of Labor of the Czech Republic has submitted to the government for consideration new rules concerning cash assistance to immigrants. In this regard, the amount of financial assistance received by Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic will be reduced. The refugees' income will be taken into account when calculating the aid.

It is also noted that the first payment will not be automatic. The application for assistance will need to be made online.

Updated amounts of financial assistance: who will receive and how much

From now on, the amount of financial assistance to Ukrainians will correspond to the subsistence minimum of the country.

• For displaced people, the amount will be smaller: instead of 5,000 kroner, they will receive 4,860 kroner per adult and 3,490 kroner per child;

• For pensioners and people with disabilities, the financial assistance will be increased by 1.5 times the subsistence minimum: the payment will be 7,290 kroner per adult and 5,235 kroner per child.

How will the payment depend on the amount of income?

Only those refugees whose income does not exceed the amount of the fixed payment will be able to apply for financial assistance in the Czech Republic. Czech incomes and money transfers from abroad, in particular from Ukraine, will be taken into account. Only payments to households in the Czech Republic and aid for children from UNICEF will not be considered income.

When deciding on the payment of child support, the joint income of a minor and an adult immigrant will be taken into account.

Support from the state can also be received by refugees whose income does not even reach the amount of humanitarian aid. Thus, to receive aid, an adult refugee without children must earn (or receive a pension) less than 4,860 kroner per month, and a mother with two children less than 11,840 kroner, i.e. less than the amount of humanitarian aid for her and her children.

At the same time, after six months, the authorities will check whether the applicant has obstacles to entering the labor market: for example, taking care of a small child, pension or studies.

It is also noted that from now on, refugees will not be able to receive free food and free hygiene products.

Pay attention! In the event that the actual place of residence of the emigrant does not correspond to that specified in the documents, the payment of financial assistance will be stopped.
