Recent months in Europe have been characterized by a large number of protests among transport workers. Find out how this affects the functioning of transportation and where to expect flight cancelations in July
Transportation disruptions are affecting passengers across Europe. Thousands of flights have been canceled in recent months due to protests by transport workers. So, let's figure out together what July will be like for passengers and where to expect flight cancellations and unstable public transportation.
London Heathrow Airport resumes operations, strikes are canceled
Security staff at London's Heathrow Airport have called off their summer strikes after their demands for a pay rise were met. The action was supposed to last 31 days and coincide with the start of school holidays and August weekends in the UK. The announcement caused considerable panic among passengers, as a strike by 2,000 people would have led to the collapse of the transportation system, as it already happened last summer. However, the protest was canceled, so travelers can safely travel to any destination.
Birmingham Airport: will flights be canceled
The Midlands may face chaos this season, as about 100 Birmingham Airport employees in management positions are currently voting on a possible strike.
In addition, it is reported that security personnel, technicians, and aircraft refuelers may simply quit due to dissatisfaction with their salaries. The dismissal of many people from key positions could lead to significant flight delays and even flight cancellations.
Sweden: flight cancellations
On July 3, strikes by security personnel at Stockholm Arlanda, Stockholm Bromma, and Gothenburg-Landvetter airports are scheduled to begin. In addition, the Swedish Transport Workers' Union announced protests on July 5, 7, 10 and 14. However, no new protests have been reported that could lead to disruptions in airport operations and flight cancellations.
Flight cancellations in Italy: what dates should not be planned for travel
There have already been a number of protests in Italy organized by trade unions representing airport employees, railway operators and public transport. As of today, there is still a high probability of flight cancellations and serious disruptions in the country's transportation system.
The nearest date of the planned 24-hour strike is July 7. All public transportation is expected to be disrupted, from airplanes and ferries to trains and subways in cities. Preliminary, transport will not work from 00:00 to the morning of July 7, then from 08:30 to 17:00 and from 20:00 to 23:59. Carriers guarantee minimal service on July 7 in the period up to 08:29 am, as well as from 17:01 to 19:59.
It is worth checking with the carrier company about the operation of airports, as the planned strike by air traffic controllers is likely to lead to significant flight delays.

Scotland: disruptions are expected at Glasgow Airport
Protests by Unite, the union representing Glasgow airport workers, have been announced for July 6 and 11. The strikes will last 24 hours, which is likely to lead to disruptions in the airport's operations.
It was also reported that further strikes at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports were canceled as the staff agreed to an 11-12% pay rise. However, the protest over the services provided to passengers with mobility problems has not yet been canceled.
Spain: how long will the strikes last
On June 19, the third round of a two-week strike by the Spanish Airline Pilots' Union began, and the protest ends today. However, it is possible that it will continue if the parties do not reach a final agreement.
In addition, the "daily indefinite strike" by Sepla has been going on since June 6, which caused the cancellation of 20% of the airline's flights and delays in other aircraft at the airport. As of today, there are no signs that the parties have made any progress in the negotiations, and therefore the strike will continue on a daily basis.
Germany: railroad strikes
The specific dates of the new protests have not yet been announced, but according to preliminary information, they will begin in mid-July, at the beginning of the vacation season. In addition, the issue of an unlimited, i.e., indefinite, strike will be raised in the vote.
The reason for the new strikes was the collapse of wage negotiations in June.
