How much did Ukrainians travel before the war?
Before the full-scale invasion, more than 85% of Ukrainians surveyed traveled within Ukraine. Of these:
● ~39% of respondents traveled more than once a year;
● ~24% of respondents went on vacation once a year;
● ~22% of Ukrainians traveled once every two years;
● ~14% did not travel at all.
However, traveler activity indicators differ in different regions of the country. For example, residents of the western regions and the capital were the most active tourists - 44% and 55% respectively, with respondents organizing a trip more than once a year. The second place in the rating was taken by residents of the Eastern and Central regions. Thus, 32% and 34%, respectively, traveled several times a year. The lowest number of travelers was recorded in the southern regions of Ukraine: 28% of Ukrainians from the south traveled more than once a year, 22% - once a year, 28% - once every two years.
The main reason why Ukrainians refused to travel before the war was lack of money. This was the answer of 70% of respondents. Another, less common but significant reason was problems with documents. Read more about how to check your passport to avoid trouble here.
