After the birth of a child and obtaining a foreign birth certificate, if at least one parent is a citizen of Ukraine, the child also has the right to obtain citizenship of our state.
To obtain a certificate on the acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine by a newborn, you must contact the consular department of an embassy or a consulate of Ukraine abroad. It should be noted that documents must be submitted to the diplomatic institution of the consular district where the child was born.
List of documents (original and copy):
• birth certificate;
• official translation of the birth certificate into Ukrainian;
• passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad to parents who will apply;
• statement.
To carry out the procedure for acquiring citizenship of Ukraine, you do not need to register in the electronic queue. Also, the presence of the second parent and the child is optional. Consular fee for the provision of services is not charged.
It should be noted that a certificate of acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine by a newborn cannot be issued twice, therefore, at the first stage, the consulate checks information about the non-receipt of this document earlier. This procedure takes 5 working days.
At the next stage, the submitted documents are checked and a decision is made. In case of refusal, the applicant will receive a letter no later than three weeks after the decision is made. In case of a positive decision, the newborn is registered as a citizen of Ukraine and the parents are issued a certificate.
The next step for parents will be to obtain a travel document for the child to travel abroad. This document can be: a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad or an identity card for returning to Ukraine.
