Norway continues to accept Ukrainians: what is known
In response to the new wave of Ukrainian refugees, Norway is preparing to create 3,000 additional places to provide temporary asylum to newcomers.
Over the past month, more than half of all Ukrainians who arrived in northern Europe have applied for asylum in Norway. The local Directorate for Foreigners (UDI) reported a rapid increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees: about 1,000 people a week.
"Over the past four weeks, about 60% of all Ukrainians who have arrived in the Scandinavian countries have chosen Norway," said Frode Forfang, director of the UDI.
Two-thirds of the refugees came directly from Ukraine, and one-third had previously lived in other European countries, but now decided to seek temporary protection in Norway. The reception center in Rode, which provides temporary housing for refugees and helps with documents, is currently overloaded.

Where does Norway plan to resettle Ukrainian refugees?
In connection with the new flow of migrants from Ukraine, it is planned to create from 2,500 to 3,000 additional places to accommodate them.
In addition, officials have decided to temporarily postpone plans to close emergency resettlement centers. If Ukrainians continue to arrive at this rate, Norway will be forced to significantly expand its housing stock.
The Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) believes that it is necessary to speed up the resettlement process in municipalities so that refugees do not stay in temporary reception centers for too long. It is expected that about 35 thousand Ukrainian refugees may need to be resettled next year.
"It is an extraordinary phenomenon for Norway to resettle so many refugees in such a short period of time. But obtaining residency status is only the beginning. In order to integrate these people as quickly as possible, it is necessary that as many of them as possible find jobs. This will help them to become financially independent and learn the Norwegian language," emphasized IMDi Director Liebe Rieber-Mon.
In the fall, a significant number of Ukrainians who are ready to integrate will complete their training courses and start working.
